Our Mission
To enhance the educational opportunities available to the citizens of Halifax County, South Boston, and South Central Virginia.
Our Vision
An expanded continuing education center located in and serving the residents of Halifax County and South-Central Virginia, charged with linking local and regional colleges and universities together and offer post secondary, higher education, and workforce training programs.
Our History
Established in 1997, the Halifax Educational Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization consisting of a 33-member board of community leaders, chief elected officials and volunteers. The Foundation operates exclusively to promote and enhance continuing educational opportunities for the citizens of the region. The vision of the Foundation has been to enhance the educational services already available through the relocation and expansion of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (HEC). The funds raised by the HEF, from the community via private donations and a matching bond referendum, paid for the renovation of the former Export Leaf Tobacco Stem Factory Warehouse. The Stem Factory building that houses the HEC provides 46,000 square feet of state-of-the-art educational and training space.
