SVHEC Partners with the Dan River Region Collaborative
Formation of Dan River Region Collaborative NFWS has historically worked with collaboratives in large, metropolitan areas throughout the United States. Realizing that workforce challenges impact rural communities differently than urban settings, they sought to develop rural collaborative models to support. The Dan River Region Collaborative (DRRC) was initiated in Summer 2008 to tap into the resources of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions. This collaborative was designed to address the workforce needs in the following areas: Halifax County, Henry County, Patrick County, Pittsylvania County, Danville,
and Martinsville, VA and Caswell County NC.

Meet Our Workforce Services Intern
Please join us in welcoming Marissa Jackson back to the SVHEC. Marissa will be completing an internship with the SVHEC's Workforce Services Department, and will have office space in the Leggett Resource Center. This past summer, she completed an internship in the SVHEC's Finance Department. At that time, she worked with SVHEC staff members Brenda Terry and Sheila Coleman in the Bookstore.
During this internship, Marissa will have varied work-related experiences including but not limited to: planning, scheduling, and coordinating activities and events; communicating directly with workforce stakeholders, partners, and participants; developing and maintaining databases using Microsoft Access as well as managing filing systems; preparing correspondences and other useful documents; and participating on SVHEC teams and committees. She will also learn more about the organization, our staff and partners, as well as internal processes.
Marissa is an Averett University student, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business with a concentration in Management Science. She will graduate May 2010. She is hoping to use her internship experience to give her a better understanding of the different positions and opportunities available in her field of study. Marissa is a Halifax County native from Scottsburg. She loves math and has volunteered as a math tutor for high school students. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Marissa's internship will be for 180 hours. Her work schedule will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning January 20, 2010 until April 10, 2010.
